AIR & KCS History
Sheree' Ahart started delivering support services in Katy, Texas at the VFW Hall in 1991. These services targeted youth and families facing addiction problems. Years later, upon receiving her licensure, she started a private practice providing therapeutic services for individuals and families participating in the support services. Both the support services and counseling practice experienced steady growth.
Eleven years ago the support services were moved to their current location at St. Peter’s UMC in Katy, Texas. There are now 12 staff members working with youth, adults, and families. Adolescents in Recovery (AIR), was formally incorporated and determined a 501c3 organization in 2003. The counseling practice was incorporated in 2003 as Katy Counseling Services (KCS). As AIR and KCS have grown, so has the breadth of services. Other behavior health services offered at AIR and KSC include but are not limited to eating disorders, trauma, mood disorders, and family counseling for youth and adults. As AIR achieved 501c3 status, the capability to reach individuals and families who could not afford treatment services became a reality. Presently, AIR is able to provide $120,000.00 in treatment scholarships each year.
Through practical experience, the staff at AIR and KCS realized long ago that persons dealing with conditions such as addictions, depression, or trauma would need more than traditional, once-a-week counseling. The primary goal is to assist clients in developing skill sets necessary to deal with unwanted symptoms and live healthy, productive lives. AIR and KCS came together in an effort to provide an effective treatment solution at an affordable cost.
We at AIR and KCS strive not only to help individuals and families ‘just get by’, but to gain and incorporate life skills to maintain long-term behavioral change; consequently increasing quality of life incrementally over time. Specifically, AIR offers support services 6 days a week including an after school program for youth. Additional supports services are available for all ages. KCS offers many counseling options with varying levels of intensity depending on the condition and need of the client(s).
